USAnaru™ original template — free to copy and adapt. It is not a government form.
Steps
- Check whether the school has its own sponsor form — if so, use that instead.
- Fill in the brackets. Use names exactly as in passports.
- Attach the bank letter(s) showing at least the yearly amount on the school's cost sheet.
- Sign and date. Have it notarized only if the school asks.
- Keep a copy for the visa interview.
What it is — and is not
Schools must see proof that an F-1 student has enough money for the amount on the I-20. Many schools have their own "sponsor" or "certification of finances" form; if yours does, use it. If not, this USAnaru™ original template puts the promise in clear words. It does not replace bank letters and it is not a U.S. government affidavit.
Fill it in, in English, and keep names consistent with passports and bank documents.
Common mistakes
- Promising an amount lower than the school's estimated yearly cost.
- A sponsor whose name does not match the bank letter.
- Calling it an 'I-134' — it is not a government form.
Questions
Do I need a lawyer or notary?
Usually not. Some schools ask for notarization; follow the school's instructions.
