USAnaru™ API Terms
Draft prepared 2026-10-10. Not yet effective.
These terms apply to the USAnaru™ JSON API (/api/v1), the MCP server (/mcp) and the data files offered with them (together, the "API"). USAnaru™ is operated by an individual (sole proprietor) under the brand USAnaru™ ("we", "us"). By calling the API you ("you") agree to these terms and to our Terms of Service. If these terms conflict with the Terms of Service, these terms control for the API.
1. Free non-commercial use, with attribution
You may use the API free of charge, without a key, within the limits in section 5, for personal, research, educational, news and other non-commercial purposes. Students, families, counselors at non-profit organizations, journalists, researchers, and AI assistants and search engines that quote or summarize our pages with a link to them may use it. Attribution is a condition of every use: whenever you show, quote or summarize data from the API, show your users the name "USAnaru™" with a visible, clickable link to the url of the item you used (or to https://usanaru.com). Every response includes an attribution block and a ready cite line for this purpose. Use without that attribution is not licensed.
2. Sources, status and no warranty
The data come mainly from public sources — the Private School Universe Survey of the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics, and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program certified school list published by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security — and, where noted, from schools' own published information. Each tag and fact names its source and the date it was last checked. A school with status "candidate" has been classified from public data and has not been verified by us; matches between the SEVP list and schools are made by name and location and may be wrong. Information such as tuition, deadlines, programs, admission requirements and visa eligibility changes and must be confirmed with the school and the relevant U.S. government agency. Nothing in the API is legal, immigration or admissions advice. THE API AND ALL DATA ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
3. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM THE API OR THE DATA. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE API IS LIMITED TO US$50.
4. Commercial use
"Commercial use" means using data or output from the API in or to support a product, service, app, website, dataset or AI model (including training) that earns revenue or is offered by a business; doing work for clients with it, including as a study-abroad agent or consultant; displaying it in a commercial product; or reselling or redistributing it in bulk. Not commercial use: a news article or an AI assistant's answer that quotes our data with a link to our page; academic research or teaching; a family's own school search.
Commercial use requires a separate written agreement with us. No paid plan is offered at this time; contact us. Public records we compile remain available from their original publishers under their own terms; these terms cover our compilation, classification and service. When you use the data, you may also credit the original source named in each response.
5. Rate limits
| Access | Per hour | Per day |
|---|---|---|
| No key (counted per IP address) | 60 | 500 |
Hourly windows reset at the top of each hour and daily windows at 00:00 UTC. Requests over a limit receive HTTP 429 and are not counted. You must not circumvent limits, for example by spreading requests over many IP addresses; use the bulk files instead. We may change limits; we will post changes on the developer page.
6. No personal data
The API contains institution-level information only. You must not combine it with other data to identify individual students, staff or families.
7. Changes, suspension and termination
We may change, limit or discontinue any part of the API. We may block access if you breach these terms, abuse the service or put it at risk. You may stop using the API at any time. Sections 2, 3 and 4 survive termination.
8. Governing law
These API terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Texas. If any part is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
