Candidate vs verified
Every school has a status. candidate: classified from public data (NCES PSS, the SEVP list) but not yet checked by USAnaru™. verified: checked against the school’s own published information. Only these two are returned. When you show a candidate school’s boarding status or programs to users, say it is not yet verified.
Every tag carries source, source_url, first_seen_at and verified_at; every yearly fact carries school_year, source, source_url and verified_at.
Schools
GET /api/v1/schools
Search schools. Filters are the same as on the schools page: within one facet, values are OR; across facets, AND. Without kind, only boarding schools are returned; kind=all returns every school type.

A school must be certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) to issue the Form I-20 for an F-1 visa. We load the certified school list published by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and match its campuses to our schools by name and location. A school without a match is not proven uncertified.
