SSAT · The Enrollment Management Association (now part of E3n)

The Secondary School Admission Test, used by many U.S. private and boarding schools for admission. It comes in three levels — Elementary (students now in grades 3–4), Middle (5–7) and Upper (8–11) — and can be taken on paper on set Saturdays, at a Prometric center or at home.

Students applying to independent middle and high schools, including boarding schools. Check whether each school accepts the SSAT, the ISEE or both.

The Independent School Entrance Exam, the other main admission test for U.S. private schools. The level depends on the grade you are applying to: Primary (2–4), Lower (5–6), Middle (7–8) and Upper (9–12). You may test once in each of three seasons a year.
